Marines, along with other hikers, begin the descent down Mount Fuji, Japan, July 20. The purpose of the hike was to build camaraderie and unit cohesion as a final event of the Fuji Warrior training exercise, a two-week intensive combat and weapons familiarization training evolution. Each year, approximately 300,000 people hike Mount Fuji between the months of July and August, the only time the volcano is not completely covered with snow and is most suitable for hiking conditions. Mount Fuji stands an impressive 12,388 feet above sea level at its highest point. The Marines are with CLR-35 and 37, 3rd MLG, III MEF.
