Rear Adm. James F. Caldwell Jr. commander of Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet, leads the crew of submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) in a “Hooyah Emory S. Land” during an all-hands call. Caldwell presented the Meritorious Unit Commendation award to Emory S. Land for serving as the Submarine Lead Maintenance Activity for the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility from Nov. 1, 2011, to Oct. 31, 2012. Homeported in Diego Garcia, Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
