Capt. Nathan Nylander's mother, Mary Grant, and stepfather, Charles Grant, look at a collection of photos that were a gift from the 25th Operational Weather Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., Aug. 1, 2013. Capt. Nathan Nylander died while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. Nylander was awarded the Silver Star medal posthumously by Gen. Norton Schwartz, former U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff in September 2011. This was the Air Force's first posthumously-awarded Silver Star since 9/11.
