Soldiers of the North Carolina National Guard’s 875th Engineer Company stand at attention during the unit’s welcome home ceremony at the John A. Walker Center, on the campus of Wilkes Community College, in Wilkesboro, N.C., Aug. 4. The unit’s nearly 160 soldiers returned to North Carolina in April after nearly a year-long deployment to Southwest Asia, where they were responsible for building fortifications, entry control points, troop housing, airfield infrastructure and other improvements to facilities in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
