Capt. Randall Hendrickson, commanding officer of the guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie, is awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal by Adm. Timothy J. Keating, commander, U.S. Pacific Command, during an awards ceremony aboard Lake. Hendrickson received the award for his outstanding leadership while serving as the commanding officer for Lake Erie, during the launching of a modified Standard Missile-3 to destroy a malfunctioning satellite.
