Lance Corporals Brandon Adamek and Kayla R. Piatt demonstrate Mechanical Advantage Control Hold (MACH) techniques while service members with the Mongolian Armed Forces conduct similar rehearsals during the field training portion of Non-Lethal Executive Seminar at Five Hills Training Area, Mongolia, Aug. 18. Mongolian troops and police personnel are rehearsing MACHs to further develop non-lethal control techniques for use during low-intensity conflict situations. The training is taking place as part of Non-Lethal Weapons Executive Seminar (NOLES) 2013, a regularly scheduled field training exercise and leadership seminar sponsored by U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific, and hosted annually by various nations throughout Asia-Pacific. In its 12th iteration, this multinational training event is designed to promote awareness and effective use of non-lethal weapons. Mongolia, a regular participant, is hosting NOLES for the third time. Adamek, a military policeman and assistant non-lethal weapons instructor with Law Enforcement Battalion, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, III MEF, is from Macomb, Mich. Piatt, also an MP and assistant trainer with LE Battalion, is from Canton, Ohio.
