Chief Warrant Officer 3 David Fox shows Chief Warrant Officer 2 Steven Stage, left, how to use the GPS on their CH-47D simulator as they prepare for a tactical platoon air assault mission in the aviation combined arms tactical trainer (AVCATT) at Simmons Army Airfield, Aug. 14. The two pilots from the 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, have flown newer CH-47F Chinooks which have digital maps showing the pilot where they are. Even though the AVCATT simulates an older version of the aircraft they fly, it still allows the pilots to learn essential leadership skills. The 3-82 GSAB has spent the last few weeks getting back to basic Army Aviation doctrine as they practiced planning for and conducting tactical platoon air assault missions at the Southeastern Regional Simulation Complex.
