A service member with the Mongolian Armed Forces walks from the decontamination zone after completing the Oleoresin Capsicum (OC, or pepper spray) qualification course during the Non-Lethal Weapons Executive Seminar field training exercise at Five Hills Training Area, Mongolia, Aug. 21. Police-grade pepper spray measures at about 5.3 million Scoville heat units, more than 2,100 times that of a jalapeno pepper. The FTX participants received classroom instruction and executed dry runs of the OC course, which also served as a cumulative test on all non-lethal tactics covered thus far during the exercise. Mongolia is hosting NOLES for the third time in 12 years, and more than 150 personnel from the Mongolian Armed Forces and Mongolian General Police are participating in the annual training event.
