FORT CARSON, Colo. - On May 15, the 4th Infantry Division Band was assigned to operate the Urban Orienteering Course for the 2013 Soldier and NCO of the Year competition.
The soldiers chosen to compete in the Soldier and NCO of the Year Competition faced a number of obstacles prior to the Urban Orienteering Course.
They withstood a barrage of examinations measuring their warrior tasks and skills, military bearing, and leadership.
The soldiers in the year's competition exemplify the attributes needed to be a successful leader in today's Army.
On this day, the 13 competitors braved inclement weather, scouring the entire Fort Carson community, finding targets that will increase their chances for winning, not only the Urban Orienteering portion, but the entire Soldier and NCO of the Year Competition.
In the end, as much as this portion required physical and mental focus, the implications demanded heart.
