    Joint Multinational Readiness Center

HOHENFELS, Germany —Soldiers and NCOs alike came together and competed for the prestigious title of Joint Multinational Readiness Center soldier and NCO of the year. The competition was held in a board setting that tested candidates with grueling questions that stacked immense pressure on all that participated. In the end, only one soldier and NCO could truly stand above their peers.

The board’s main focus was to ensure the most knowledgeable, competent, and deserving candidate took top honors for the NCO and Soldier of the year. The warriors that took top honors were Spc. Tanner Hageman, Medical Platoon, 1st Battalion 4th Infantry Regiment and Sgt. 1st Class Eugene Williams, Squadron FIRES Support NCO, Grizzlies Observer/Controller Team.

"Boards build knowledge and confidence while forcing them to perform under pressure,” explained Command Sgt. Maj. Eric C. Dostie, JMRC Senior Enlisted Adviser. “One also learns a lot about themselves, their strengths and weaknesses.”

The competitors spent countless hours studying Army policies, regulations and procedures. Studying however, was only half the battle. The main challenge came when they stood before the board, where they were scrutinized and questioned by senior enlisted personnel.

“Going up for it, I was pretty sure I was going to win but then just sitting out there in that hallway you’re always just so uncertain. It’s just a very anxious time and very anxious environment,” said Spc. Hageman "I just really don’t like losing! I’m not going to lie.”
"I’m trying to separate myself from my peers. It took lots of studying. Even as a senior NCO, you don’t know everything," stated Sgt. 1st Class Williams. “I was surprised, I thought that I was a little nervous in the board and I thought it showed a bit. But apparently I did an outstanding job."

The Joint Multination Readiness Center is the U.S. Army's only overseas Combat Training Center. It is part of the Joint Multinational Training Command and trains more than 60,000 soldiers (U.S. and allied) annually.
