SEBASTIAN, Fla. - World War II veteran Warren H. Pinter, of Sebastian, Fla., will celebrate his 90th birthday on December 10, 2013.
Pinter served as a Marine during the Pacific Campaign in such battles as Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Marines with Recruiting Station Fort Lauderdale honored Pinter’s service Nov 21, by delivering a letter of thanks from Retired Gen. Alfred M. Grey, the 29th Commandant of the Marine Corps.
Grey wrote that Pinter’s service “at the battle of Roi-Namur and the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, the Battle of Saipan and Tinian in the Marianas Islands, and the Battle of Iwo Jima place you in a select group of Marines.”
Pinter enlisted in the Marine Corps on Dec. 5, 1942 and served in the Pacific with 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division. He was honorably discharged on June 29, 1945. Pinter received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his service in the Pacific.
