CHERRY POINT, N.C. - For the second time in less than a month, Cherry Point and most of the Crystal Coast experienced blistery, blizzard-like conditions that swept much of the country last week. The aftermath of the freezing rain and ice delayed, and in some instances halted, normal operations aboard the air station, limiting access on and off base for all but essential personnel.
Although operations were limited, the critical personnel the air station relies on were still on the job, ensuring essential services would not halt completely.
The irregular operations Tuesday and Wednesday gave Cherry Point residents another opportunity to enjoy the rare wintery weather.
Many members of the community took advantage of the extra free time to partake in their favorite snow day activities including snowball fights, building snowmen and sledding.
