MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Chiefs and first class petty officers from various commands on Naval Support Activity Mid-South participated in the CPO 365 Sporting Event May 13.
The CPO 365 Sporting Event served as a team-building exercise in a variety of sports.
“This is our Phase 1 training where we get all the first classes and chiefs together to do our sports Olympics,” said Chief Navy Counselor Ginger Stevenson, trainer/inspector for the training and quality assurance department at Navy Recruiting Command (NRC). “Today they all played softball, kickball, tug-of-war and corn hole.”
Contestants separated into four “boat teams” to gain points for winning events.
It wasn’t all about fun and games for the participants. This event provided an opportunity for the chiefs to deliver one-on-one mentorship to the first classes.
“One of the reasons we put on these events is to build camaraderie, teamwork, and to teach first classes how to use their resources and know how to communicate well with the chiefs,” said Chief Personnel Specialist Kurt McKenzie, enlisted active programs branch head for Navy Personnel Command.
The true purpose of the event was not missed by the first class contestants.
“I liked and disliked all the events equally because I’m not big on sports; however, the camaraderie and sportsmanship was awesome,” said Navy Counselor 1st Class Kathleen Jennings, command career counselor for NRC. “I would have to say that my favorite part was just being part of the team.”
Top contestants were rewarded with a Darth Vader statue, a clock and a variety of other ribbons and medals.
