BUTNER, N.C. - North Carolina National Guard Army Lt. Col. Cristina Moore, 505th Engineer Battalion Outgoing Commander, relinquishes her command during a ceremony at the Armory here, June 7, 2015.

During the time honored traditional ceremony, Moore passed the colors (unit flag); which represents the commander’s authority and responsibility, to Col. Luke Burnett, 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade Commander, who in turn passed it to Maj. Frank Poovey, Incoming Commander; entrusting him with the responsibilities of the command.

Poovey then passed the colors to Command Sgt. Maj. Jason Zike, custodian of the colors, for safe keeping during his command.

After the passing of the colors, Burnett praised Moore for a job well done and welcomed Poovey into the fold.

“All that administrative stuff that no one likes to do; you [Moore] did all of that,” said Burnett. “And on top of that, the mission that the 505th [completed] at DuPont Forest was absolutely a flawless task, the level of professionalism and work that was done there will make money for the state of North Carolina for a long time to come.”

“That just doesn’t happen, it takes work and it takes a team of teams,” Burnett continued. “Colonel Moore your team knocked that thing out of the park.”

“I’m also thrilled to welcome to the battalion, Wade [Frank] Poovey,” he continued. “I challenge you during your tenure with the three cardinal rules that I have [adopted for my] command … personnel maintenance, training management, and keeping your Soldiers engaged.”

“You have a lot of work to do; there is a lot of good stuff coming up; so Cristina, good job and Wayne, good luck!”

As Poovey addressed the crowd, he acknowledged the accomplishments of the battalion under Moore’s command and he vowed to push the battalion forward in the same manner.

“[Moore] has brought the battalion to a performance of the highest standards in each and every capacity as a commander,” Poovey said. “To the officers and noncommissioned officers of the 505th, your performance, commitment to excellence and the willingness to take on missions regardless of times, locations, or regions, never ceases to amaze me.”

“The history of the 505th is well documented and highly decorated,” he continued. “I have every confidence that we will maintain the very high standards set by Lt. Col. Moore.”

The mutual respect amongst the leaders was evident as each assured the Soldiers of the level of trust and confidence shared as they move onto the next level of command. Moore also let it be known that she believes that this battalion set a precedent for other battalions to follow.

They are simply the best in her opinion; proudly accomplishing each mission during her tenure, abiding by and profoundly shouting their motto …“Disciplined to Serve.”

“Soldiers of the 505th, you are totally without a doubt the best battalion in the state,” said Moore. “Not only the best battalion in the state, but you are the best engineer battalion of the reserve, active component, and National Guard … and I will bet that any day against any battalion.”
