USS RONALD REAGAN, waters south of the Korean Peninsula - Dignitaries from Republic of Korea (ROK) embarked aboard the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), Oct. 28.
Mark Lippert, the U.S ambassador to South Korea, accompanied Gen. Kim Hyun-jip, deputy commander, combined forces command, and other distinguished guests on their tour, which showcased Ronald Reagan and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, and provided visitors the opportunity to interact with the crew and observe at-sea operations.
“We’re honored to have our guests aboard today,” said Capt. Christopher Bolt, commanding officer aboard Ronald Reagan. “It’s always great to show off this great ship to our friends in Korea.”
The distinguished guests toured several of the ship’s spaces including the flight deck, navigation bridge, hangar bays and flight deck control, which allowed them to see Ronald Reagan’s at-sea operations up-close and personal.
“We are quite impressed by the ship and its capabilities,” said Lippert. “It provides a better understanding about what an aircraft carrier can do, and we all really appreciate everything that you guys do out here.”
This visit is in conjunction with the bilateral training that Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group is conducting with the Republic of Korea Navy to strengthen the U.S.-Republic of Korea alliance and improve regional security.
Ronald Reagan and CVW-5 provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
