CAMP ZAMA, Japan — The Camp Zama Girl Scouts had a busy weekend as they participated in two separate cultural exchange events: skiing and learning how to make Japanese food, Jan. 10 and 11.
The Camp Zama Girl Scouts are fortunate to have strong ties with their Japanese Girl Scout counterparts. The two organizations host each other in different events throughout the year that showcase and share the traditions of each other’s cultures.
The overnight weekend cultural exchange trip brought 20 Japanese Girl Scouts together with Camp Zama’s Girl Scouts to ski, play, and make new friends.
The group had two days of skiing at a Nagano Prefecture Ski Resort as well as an evening full of games and activities.
The New Year’s Celebration was a large event, with 25 Camp Zama Girl Scouts learning how to make gyoza and Temali zushi (ham sushi and fired egg sushi) from their 20 Japanese sister scouts. The girls also learned and participated in traditional Japanese games.
