BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. - Staff Sgt. Patrick O'Connor, Air Reserve Personnel Center DD214 service technician, was selected as the 2015 Air National Guard Readiness Center Airman of the Year by Brig. Gen. Michael Taheri, ANGRC commander, Feb. 26, 2016, at Joint Base Andrews, Md.

The six-year Air Force veteran filled leadership gaps elevating his team's production by 15 percent. He superbly created and corrected more than 1,100 DD Form 214/215 team cases and reduced backlog by 30 percent with zero discrepancies. A leader amongst peers, he earned the Buckley AFB Airman Leadership School Class 15-D Leadership Award and was coined by the 460th Space Wing first sergeant for his individual effort. In addition, he was elected ARPC’s Junior Enlisted Airman Council’s secretary by his peers and currently supports the career growth of more than 100 junior enlisted personnel.

O’Connor described what it was like to win the award.

“I felt honored just to be nominated. To see all the sights and meet all the great people at the Air National Guard Readiness Center was an outstanding experience,” O’Connor said. “When General Taheri called me into his office to present me with this award, I felt blessed.”

He said he wanted to thank Raul Ruiz, ARPC service verification section chief, Jacqueline Bing, ARPC sustainment division chief, Col. Pat Hayes, ARPC Total Force Service Center director, and Chief Master Sgt. Sean Strong, TFSC superintendent, among other leaders who have helped him in the process of this achievement.
