Prior to assuming command of the 691st ISRG, James held the position of Director of Cyberspace Policy, Resources and Capabilities for the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington D.C. position. An Air Force academy graduate, James has served in all three levels of leadership roles to include commanding ISR and Cyberspace units.
“We are excited to have Col. James lead the men and women of the 691st. His background is very diverse and perfect for this assignment,” Col. Thomas Hensley, 70th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing commander said.
Officially inactivated in September 2014 at Royal Air Force Menwith Hill Station, United Kingdom, the 691st ISRG has now stood up to link Air and Space operations with the Global Cryptologic Enterprise. The group was chosen to be re-activated to increase mission effectiveness aiding the National Security Agency and the Air Force. The new capabilities will allow for Airmen to take on an active role in NSA organizations through leadership.
“I will do my best to be the commander that this group, the air force and our nation deserves,” James said. “To the men and women of the 691st, I am extremely grateful and humbled to serve as your commander. I expect you to carry out your mission with dedication, loyalty and energy and I pledge to you that I will do the same.”
Because the 707th ISRG is moderately larger than most Air Force wings, the 691st ISRG will absorb Airmen from three separate intelligence squadrons here, including 13 geographically separated units to increase mission effectiveness at a more manageable size.
