    927th Air Refueling Wing

225 Citizen Airmen, from nearly 30 Air Force Specialty Codes, representing 20 wings throughout Air Force Reserve Command are participating in the annual Patriot Warrior exercise through August 23, 2016, here.

This joint and multinational exercise is designed for the participants to demonstrate their contingency deployment abilities ranging from base infrastructure buildup to full aeromedical evacuation operations.
The two-week long exercise began with airmen being placed in bare base conditions and in a matter of days, turning the facilities into a fully functioning base able to accept wounded patients flown on aircraft serving as mobile hospitals.

Multiple AFSCs are represented in this exercise including pilots, medical technicians and medical logisticians, all coming together to complete the aero-med mission.

“This is a great opportunity for the Airmen assigned to the Air Force Reserve who don’t get the opportunity to have hands on experience to apply their skills,” said Lt. Col. Adam Mclean, commander, 63rd Air Refueling Squadron, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. “Exercises like this allow us to apply our skills, not just within the aero-med AFSC, but all of those who can ultimately support the mission down range.”

To fulfill the intent of the training, and increase the reality of the deployed state of mind, Patriot Warrior leaders deployed Airmen of all experience levels to get a feel for what they can expect in a real word contingency.

“Being from the AE career field I understand the career, but as a new first sergeant, I get to experience things in a different way that will assist me when I do deploy again,” said Air Force Master Sgt. Abel Martinez, 433rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base. “My first objective is to get to know the Airmen in the unit, know who they are, what they do and understand where they come from. If I know this information I can help keep the pulse of the unit going.”

More than 11,000 members from the U.S. service branches and their Reserve components, including Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps are participating alongside British, Canadian, and Saudi Arabian forces during Patriot Warrior.
