Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico – Capt. Peter Ray Lopez, a native from Humacao, PR, dreamed of being in the military since he was a child. In December of 2007, his dream came true, and he joined the U.S. Army Reserve.
“As a little kid, I remember telling my parents how much I wanted to become a Soldier and a law enforcement officer,” said Lopez. “I wanted to follow in my grandfather and father’s footsteps.” Lopez’ grandfather was a Korean War Veteran, and his father retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Lopez applies his skills and knowledge from the U.S. Army Reserve on a daily basis. “Discipline, teamwork, dedication, professionalism, responsibility and brotherhood are among the many attributes and skills I have gained from the military and implement in my life,” expressed Lopez. “Furthermore, never quitting and taking care of my fellow Soldiers are two important attributes I will carry throughout my military career.”
Lopez never had doubt in his mind about joining the military or becoming a law enforcement official. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom during 2012-2013 and currently serves in the 215th Military Police Detachment on Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. In his civilian capacity, Lopez works as a federal law enforcement agent.
“It is evident, that as military members, we bring expertise, experience and character that private organizations are looking for,” said Lopez. “My main reason for joining the Army was to serve my country with honor and pride. I love being a part of an organization that upholds high standards of professionalism, discipline and values.”
Lopez encourages anyone that wants to join the military to take the first step and not be afraid. “Great things require great sacrifices. If you think you want to join, take action,” commented Lopez. “There is nothing more exciting and rewarding than knowing that you are part of an organization that protects our people, our country and our way of life. Once you put the uniform on, you will never want to take it off.”
