CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Central Lake, Mich., native Brandon A. Lewis, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, was formally inducted into the non-commissioned officer corps at a joint Army and Air Force NCO induction ceremony.
Lewis, a vehicle operator and dispatcher with the Air Force 424th Medium Truck Detachment, is based out of Tucson, Ariz., and is currently serving his third deployment in support of the global war on terror.
"Joining the NCO ranks means mentoring Airmen," said Lewis.
During the ceremony, the service members agreed to set the standard, as the newly inducted recited their service's NCO charge, which tasks them into leading the best-trained, most professional and most respected military in the world.
"I learned during my time in the service to learn to have pride your job," he said.
As Patterson made his walk underneath an archway of four-bayoneted rifles, things forever changed as he was officially recognized as a member of the time-honored corps.
"I will be the best NCO that I can be for my Airmen," he said.
During the ceremony, held at the chapel, Airmen and Soldiers merged in a common purpose, as senior NCOs watched with pride, new NCOs showed their professionalism and junior troops listened with admiration.
"The job of an NCO in the United States Military is without peer. There is no better job anywhere, in or out of the military," said Command Sgt. Maj. Erik R.R. Frey, the 4th Sustainment Brigade Command sergeant major and the guest speaker for the ceremony.
"While it is important that you are inducted into the corps, it is even more important that you now assume the role of a NCO leader in your formation," he said.
"It is essential to make the Army and Air Force values part of everything you do in war and peace. It is imperative to live and breathe the warrior ethos and Soldier's and Airmen's creed," he said.
"Strive to be an example and carry on the legacy that is learned and forged on an anvil of experience, sacrifice and dedication to duty," said Frey.
