The submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) held a change of command ceremony at Naval Operations Support Center Portland, Ore., May 22.
Capt. Jeff Farah relieved Capt. Drew St. John as commanding officer of USS Frank Cable.
“It is with profound sadness that I take to the podium today,” said St. John. “Today I am bringing to an end the best tour I have had during my Navy career.”
St. John served as commanding officer from Aug. 26, 2015. During his leadership, Frank Cable concluded a successful five-month deployment to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region and U.S. Central Command area of operations, providing vital flexibility to the fleet commanders, extending the range and impact of U.S. naval forces in the U.S. Navy's 5th and 7th Fleets.
“I have had the honor and the privilege to be part of a truly great crew, each of them a leader with a bright future ahead of them,” said St. John. “To share time with them, even for a moment, has been one of the great experiences of my life.”
St. John was awarded the Legion of Merit by Rear Adm. Fredrick Roegge, commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Farah, previously served at Pacific Fleet Submarine Force as a Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team Senior Member and Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Operations. Farah is Frank Cable’s 20th commanding officer since her commissioning Oct. 20, 1979 and is looking forward to his time as Frank Cable’s new commanding officer.
Farah said, “I really look forward to getting to know and working with all of you.”
Frank Cable, currently in Portland, Ore., for a scheduled dry-dock maintenance availability, is home-ported in Guam and conducts maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels deployed in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
