Airmen from the 179th Airlift Wing, Mansfield, Ohio, hosted and participated in Military Appreciation Day at the 42nd Annual Memorial Tournament on May 31, 2017, at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

PGA Tour legend and Memorial Tournament Founder Jack Nicklaus hosted Military Appreciation Day where Ohio National Guard members and other military service members were honored during a luncheon.

Col. Jim Camp, the 179th Airlift Wing Commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Mark Dyer, the 179th Airlift Wing Command Chief, were two of the distinguished visitors for the day.

Air National Guard members from the 179th AW were involved in or supported different parts of the day’s event.

The Memorial Tournament is themed each year around a person who has contributed to the game of golf. Jack Nicklaus began this tradition to recognize the achievements of the game's greatest individuals. The honoree is selected by a group of statesmen called the Captains Club. Each year at the Memorial Tournament, an induction ceremony is held to recognize the new honoree. This year’s honoree is Greg Norman.

Honor Guard members of the Ohio National Guard presented the Colors for the honoree ceremony and Chaplain (Capt.) Randy Barlow, from the 179th AW, gave the invocation.

179th AW Security Forces Squadron members had a weapons static display set up in the Champions Pavilion. As people passed by, they could stop and talk to the SFS members and take a look at the weapons and equipment that were on display. These events provide members in the ONG opportunities to share with the public how they support their local communities and respond to state and federal missions.

One of the members of the 179th Airlift Wing had a unique opportunity to be a part of the military caddy program and was a caddy for a PGA pro.

Military Appreciation events such as these, not only remind the community of the sacrifice the men and women in the military make for their country, but also provide military members an opportunity to show their gratitude for the support they get from fellow citizens.
