FORT CARSON, Colo. – Senior leaders from 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives Command, 71st Ordnance Group (EOD), subordinate units, friends and family came together for a dual-purposed ceremony Sept. 6, 2017 at Founders Field on Fort Carson, Colo.
The first part of the ceremony was to officially uncase the unit's colors. Uncasing the colors signifies that the unit has fully reintegrated back into its home station after a nine-month deployment to Kuwait in support of Task Force Atlas.
The second part of the ceremony was a change of responsibility to recognize Command Sgt. Maj. Weston West as the new command sergeant major of 71st OD GP. West replaced Command Sgt. Maj. Brant Shyrigh, who served with Davis throughout the unit’s deployment.
Davis elaborated on the successes of the deployment during his address to attendees of the ceremony.
According to Davis, TF Atlas personnel executed more than 580 EOD and counter improvised explosive device operations focused on protecting U.S. military, coalition forces and citizens of Iraq and Syria from extremist organizations and the deadliest weapons of the modern battlefield.
Brig. Gen. James Bonner, commander of the 20th CBRNE Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., came to the mountain post to show support to the 71st OD GP. Prior to the ceremony, Bonner presented Shyrigh with the Meritorious Service Medal for exceptional meritorious service as the 71st OD GP’s senior enlisted leader.
One by one attendees stood in a line to thank and congratulate Shyrigh for a job well done following the ceremony.
