The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff approved the nomination, and Carden will begin his new duties October 1, 2017.

Carden has served in the Georgia Army National Guard since 1986, rising from private to commanding general.
“Carden is one of the finest officers with whom I have had the honor and pleasure to serve,” said Maj. Gen. Joe Jarrard, Adjutant General of Georgia. “We will miss his untiring energy and servant leadership but wish him the best in this critical assignment.”
Deal will appoint Col. Randall Simmons to serve as the Georgia National Guard’s Assistant Adjutant General-Army.
