YAUCO, Puerto Rico – U.S. Army Reserve soldiers, assigned to multiple units under the 1st Mission Support Command (MSC), Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, welcomed the commanding general of the 1st MSC, Oct. 7, 2017.
Brig. Gen. Dustin "Dusty" A. Shultz, the commanding general of the 1st MSC, traveled to the Pfc. Luis F. Garcia Olivares U.S. Army Reserve Center in Yauco, where she visited Alpha Company 35th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 210th Regional Support Group, 1st Mission Support Command.
“Wow, these soldiers are rock stars!” said Shultz.
The soldiers expressed how happy they were to see the commanding general at their locations.
“We are glad to see the commanding general here,” said Staff Sgt. Miguel Jhon, a multi-channel transmission systems operator-maintainer, assigned to A Co. 35th ESB.
"The soldiers provide data communication, and phone communications for users within the reserve center," said Staff Sgt. Luis A. Escalera, an information technology specialist for A Co. 35th ESB and a native of San German, Puerto Rico.
“I know our commanding general is doing everything she can to take care of us,” said U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Mildred H. Soto, a senior human resource non-commissioned officer for the 1st MSC, and native of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico.
Shultz also visited both the temporary living quarters and job location for the 471st Engineer Company, 448th Engineer Battalion, 210th Regional Support Group, 1st Mission Support Command, also from Fort Buchanan.
“We are chipping away at this boulder a little bit at the time to help civilians drive through with their cars," said Spc. Eduardo Hernandez, a carpentry and masonry specialist, assigned to the 471st.
“Route 372 is a critical road that needs clearing for the local community it also leads to the nearest hospital in the community,” said Staff Sgt. Enmanuel Minier, a construction engineer supervisor, assigned to the 471st.
“It is inspiring to see the commanding general travel across the island to help us, “it helps boost morale," said Spc. Anthony Tosado, a carpentry and masonry specialist, assigned to the 471st.
