The meeting was intended to inform service members and their families of the unit’s current and future operations, and the myriad services available to them across the base, which are established to ease stressors often accompanying an active duty lifestyle.
The MEB provides a scalable, rapidly deployable and joint task force-capable command element (CE) with task-organized air-ground forces that are composited from forward-deployed or rapidly deployable forces in order to fulfill geographic combatant commander operational requirements.
This means at a moment’s notice the brigade could be called upon to deploy in support of a contingency operation. Langley’s principle takeaway for families was readiness; that a unit’s readiness suffers if its member’s family readiness slips.
“We don’t know what’s on the horizon,” Langley said, addressing the crowd. “So we do this (briefing) two times a year and every time I get an opportunity to address you (I’m going to) talk about readiness. I’m going to talk about family care plans. I’m going to bring some of our supporting enablers.”
Langley was speaking about the American Red Cross, Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and other organizations which had booths and representatives available to provide information and answer attendee questions after the brief.
“What can we tell the families…what can we tell the spouses to ensure they’re ready,” Langley said. “we need to let them know about some of the unknowns because we are a global response force in every sense of the word.”
