The Idaho Army National Guard’s Officer Candidate School Company, 2nd Battalion (Modular), 204th Regional Training Institute received a near perfect 99.8 percent score during its most recent accreditation inspection, a reflection of the unit’s hard work and dedication to train and develop the organization’s future officers.
“The score supports and proves that the 2-204th Modular Training Battalion is the home of leadership for the Idaho Army National Guard,” said Maj. Bryan Reid. “2nd MTB creates and develops the future leaders, sets the standard in leadership and continues to be a learning organization.”
Reid served as the unit’s company commander/senior platoon leader at the time of the accreditation and now serves as the operations officer for the 1-183rd Aviation Battalion.
The battalion provides Officer Candidate School, Warrant Officer Candidate School, the Army Instructor Course, medical training courses and other command-directed training courses to instruct, develop and shape the Idaho Army National Guard by supporting unit training needs and preparing Soldiers for future mission in the National Guard and United States Army. OCS instructs, develops and shapes selected Soldiers in the fundamentals of leadership and basic military skills; instills the professional and physical fitness ethic to be successful; evaluates leadership potential; and commission those who qualify as second lieutenants into the Idaho Army National Guard. The company graduates an average of eight officer candidates each year.
The inspection, conducted in March with the official results released mid-April, evaluated the training battalion on seven standards: the battalion’s mission, purpose and functions; governance and administration; learning programs; institutional training and education, mission management; assessment, evaluation and effectiveness; staff and faculty; and leader development. The battalion received a perfect score in all but one category, learning programs, which it received a 98.6 percent.
The company was the first company in the battalion to be accredited this year and its Warrant Officer Candidate School Company will be inspected in July. The battalion is the third battalion in the 204th Regional Training Institute to be accredited and additional units will be inspected throughout 2018. Its Maintenance Ordnance Training Battalion received a 99.2 on its most recent inspection, conducted in November. In February, the 1-204th Regional Training Institute (Armor) battalion received a perfect 100 percent score.
