MARKSVILLE, La. – The Louisiana National Guard's 1020th Vertical Company, 527th Engineer Battalion in Marksville, La., paid tribute to a community supporter recently. Earl J. Barbry Sr., chief and chairman of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, received the Louisiana National Guard Distinguished Civilian Service Medal during a ceremony at the Mari Convention Center in Marksville, La.

The medal is awarded by the adjutant general of the Louisiana National Guard to the civilian who has rendered exceptionally meritorious service in furthering the security and welfare of the state.

Brig. Gen. Stephen C. Dabadie, principal advisor to the adjutant general for programs, policies and plans, presented the certificate and medal to Barbry and his family on behalf of the LANG.

"For his efforts to protect the citizens of Marksville and surrounding areas, Chairman Barbry is worthy of this award," Dabadie said. "Individuals like him are essential to the success of the Louisiana National Guard. He is committed to making a difference and is committed to ensuring the LANG is successful in this community."

Also in attendance were Chris Barbry, acting general manager of Paragon Casino and other members of the Barbry family.

A framed picture entitled "Why We Serve" was presented to the employees of Paragon Casino as a token of appreciation for their longstanding tradition of community involvement and outstanding support for the LANG. The picture will remain on public display in the casino lobby.
