INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indiana National Guard soldier and Rockford, Illinois native received top honors for leadership during a ceremony at the Pentagon in June from U.S. Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Mark A. Milley.
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Todd Gage, a member of Company A, 2-20 Special Forces Group, was just one of 28 soldiers who earned the Gen. Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award this year, the 31st time the awards have been presented.
"It was an honor to represent the Hoosier state and the Indiana National Guard," said Gage.
Soldiers came from across the nation, regardless of component -- active-duty, Reserve or National Guard. Their commanders nominate company-grade officers -- captain and below or chief warrant officer 2 or below -- based on leadership, influence, proficiency, Army values, team-building skills and personal skills.
Nominees for the award must maintain a high level of personal readiness ensuring they are physically, mentally and administratively prepared.
"The Gen. Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award is proof of the impact personal readiness has on our organization," said Chief Warrant Officer 5 Christopher R. Jennings, the senior chief warrant officer in the Indiana National Guard. "By ensuring his personal readiness is constantly maintained at a high level, Mr. Gage was able to focus on the mission and unit readiness during a vital deployment in a critical location."
