BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers from Task Force 1st Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, partnered with the 3rd Brigade, 1st National Police Division, came together for a unique opportunity at Combat Outpost Cashe South, Jan. 20.

The combined forces gathered together for the promotion of Lt. Col. Sami, the 3-1 NP Div. brigade logistics officer, and Lt. Col. Dafor, 3-1 NP Div. Joint Security Station commander, as the two national police leaders were promoted to the rank of colonel.

The promotion was conducted in front of the combined forces at COP Cashe South at the request of Brig. Gen. Emad, commander of 3-1 NP Div., and served to illustrate the partnership between coalition forces and the national police in the Jisr Diyala and Narhwan Nahias.

Both NP officers requested that Maj. Dave Raugh, the executive officer of TF 1-35, who hails from Altoona, Pa., participated in the ceremony along with Lt. Col. Frederick Gottschalk, of Moncure, N.C., who is the transition team chief with the 3-1 NP Div., and Iraqi national police Brig. Gen. Emad.

"I would like to thank the 3rd Brigade commander and all of my friends in the coalition forces for this honorable ceremony, and I wish all of you return home safe to your families," said Sami.

At the end of the ceremony, Sami and Dafor cut a promotion ceremony cake and were presented gifts by TF 1-35. The Iron Knight Soldiers congratulated them for their hard work and their well-deserved promotions.

"We were honored to host the promotions of two fine national police officers. The national police prove again and again that they are a top-notch organization. These officers represent the high quality of all officers in 3-1 NP," said Raugh.
