    152nd Airlift Wing

RENO, Nev. -- The 152nd Security Forces Squadron conducted its annual machine gun qualification at the “Bravo-19” range near Fallon, Nev. on Friday, August 10, 2018.

Approximately 25 Security Forces, three Services, one Firefighter and one Public Affairs Airmen were on the trip. Most Airmen stayed the night and shot for qualification both Friday and Saturday. Temperatures peaked around 107 degrees during the heat of the day.

    The shooters received training on grenades and the following machine guns: MK-19 (40mm), M2-A1 (50 caliber), M240B (7.62 mm), M249 (5.56mm), and M203 (5.56mm) breech-loading grenade launcher (40mm) training.

Some of their two-person advanced designated marksman teams executed training on M-24 and M-110 (7.62mm) machine guns. These teams of two consist of one spotter and one shooter, who work together to come up with a range of where to shoot.

One of the main focuses was to conduct zeroing operations with a new 855A1 ammunition, which will be used during upcoming deployments. This training enabled the Airmen to get all weapons zeroed to the duty ammunition since the ammunition has changed since last time the weapons were zeroed.

    Everyone that went qualified.

First time deployer, Airman 1st Class Dustin Randol said, “Overall, I thought it was a great learning environment. Coming from our tech school, our tech school is very watered down. There are a lot of very specific skills that we got to touch up on that I never really got to do before. Ultimately, I had a lot of fun. I thought our instructors were great and they gave us some really good insight of what it’s like to deploy because both Airman 1st Class James Terry and I are both first time deployers—so I feel like I got a little bit of an edge on other people coming from other units who may or may not have deployed before. I had fun, there was a lot of time that it was stressful and hot, but we kind of embraced the suck and that made it easier.”

The Security Forces members are set to deploy later this year.
