HULMAN FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Ind. – The 181st Intelligence Wing base honor guard welcomes a new superintendent to take charge of the honor guard.
U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Joseph Henning, Indiana Air National Guard, 181st Intelligence Wing took command of the honor guard and he was eager to start.
“Being the Honor Guard Superintendent has many rewards and challenges,” said Henning. “I am both excited and scared a little. I am determined to make the 181 IW base honor guard great and I am excited to be in a position to be able to make some positive changes for the honor guard members.”
Henning became the superintendent after Master Sgt. Kelli Wietlisbach, the former 181 IW base honor guard superintendent, took on a different assignment.
“I have huge shoes to fill with taking over as superintendent after Master Sgt. Kelli Wietlisbach,” expressed Henning. “She did an amazing job and my goals are the same as her goals. We need to continue improving the relationship between the 181 IW honor guard and the Department of Indiana Ceremonial Unit performing when it comes to joint missions.”
The 181st IW base honor guard performs multiple events but the primary mission is funeral honors.
“I feel it is our way to honor the members who have gave the ultimate sacrifice and say "Thank You" for their service to our nation,” said Henning. “It is not my right but my privilege to honor the fallen service members.”
