The Nevada Air National Guard recognized its top performers from 2018 on Jan. 5, during the annual Airman of the Year Banquet. Dignitaries attending the annual event included the Adjutant General, Nevada National Guard, Brig. Gen. William Burks; the Assistant Adjutant General, Nevada Air National Guard, Brig. Gen. Ondra Berry; the Assistant Adjutant General, Nevada Army National Guard, Brig. Gen. Michael Hanifan; Director, Joint Chief of Staff, Nevada National Guard, Brig. Gen. Zachary Doser; Director of Staff, Nevada Air National Guard, Col. David Mason; 152nd Airlift Wing Commander, Col. Eric Wade; 152nd Airlift Wing Vice Wing Commander, Col. Todd Starbuck; and the Air National Guard Advisor to the Chief, Air Force Nurse Corps in the office of the Surgeon General, Brig. Gen. Shanna Woyak, Chief Nurse.

The Airman of the Year award went to Airman 1st Class Mia Carney (152nd Medical Group), Tech. Sgt. Chelsea Canaday (Nevada State Headquarters) won the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year title and the Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year award went to Senior Master Sgt. Sherdean Din (Nevada State Headquarters). Master Sgt. Timothy Schweppe (152nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron) won First Sergeant of the Year.

Honors for Company Grade Officer of the Year went to Capt. David Lynn (152nd Operations Support Squadron) and Tech. Sgt. Kylea Sherman was the Honor Guard Member of the Year.

Even with a third of the Nevada Air National Guard being deployed, the event completely sold out.

Each year, the attendance grows. This year was the first year we had to turn people away because we just didn't have the space for them." Nevada Air National Guard State Command Chief Michael Drisdale said, "It's great to see the support from the families, we will plan for a larger space next year!"

The winners will go on and represent the Nevada Guard in national level Airmen of the Year competitions.
