PINEVILLE, La. – Louisiana Army National Guardsman Christopher D. Phillips of Colfax, La., was promoted to sergeant first class during a recent pinning ceremony at the 225th Engineer Brigade headquarters in Pineville, La.

The 13-year veteran currently serves as the readiness non-commissioned officer for the 831st Survey and Design Team.

"I feel that this promotion is a very important milestone in a Soldier's career," Phillips said. "I look forward to the challenge of preparing a unit to deploy within the next year, as well as having the opportunity to deploy at this level of leadership," added Phillips, who is scheduled to deploy with the 831st to Afghanistan in early 2010.

During his career, he has received various federal and state awards to include the Military Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal.
