LAS VEGAS – More than 17 locations across Nevada — including several in Las Vegas and Reno — participated in celebrating the National Day of Prayer, held annually on the first Thursday of May.
At the Las Vegas City Hall, Nevada National Guard Chaplain Capt. Troy Dandrea and eight soldiers with the 1st Squadron, 221st Calvary Regiment began the ceremony by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Several local pastors lead prayers throughout the hour, concluding with Dandrea’s invocation.
“The Army National Guard has been invited alongside lots of other government leaders and other pastors throughout the city to be able to pray for our nation, our people, and the well-being of all of its citizens,” Dandrea said.
Each pastor focused on a specific topic to pray about: giving strength to teachers, providing good role models, and helping parents to raise their children.
As Dandrea approached the podium he adjusted the microphone and said, “I think you all know what I’m going to pray about.”
More than one-hundred people attended the event, which also included a small band that played faith-inspired music and ceremonial dancers.
