U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Albuquerque District

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Dr. Larry McCallister, SES, chief of Engineering and Construction, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers headquarters, began his two-day visit to the District by holding a town hall with the District’s Engineering and Construction employees, at the AFOTEC building on Kirtland Air Force Base, March 20, 2019.

McCallister discussed the engineering and construction world from the USACE-HQ level perspective, and addressed the balance of work between the military construction and the civil works missions. One little-known fact he mentioned is that USACE’s real estate department handles the real estate matters of military recruiting centers across the country, through the Department of Defense Recruiting Facilities Program. He also answered numerous questions, followed by an informal reception, where he spoke further with District employees. Following the town hall, Dr. McCallister received an overview of the District’s Middle Rio Grande Bernalillo to Belen project. He then toured portions of the project that afternoon.

The second day of his visit, McCallister visited the National Nuclear Security Administration Albuquerque Complex project site, where he was briefed on the project’s history and current status. Representatives from NNSA also attended the briefing. A driving tour of District projects at KAFB, and a briefing on the District’s Northwest El Paso project, rounded out his visit.
