CAMP AL TAQADDUM, Iraq - Sgt. Maj. Carl R. Green, the outgoing sergeant major of 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), was relieved by Sgt. Maj. William T. Stables during a post and relief ceremony at Camp Al Taqaddum, Iraq, May 29.
Green shared four years with the 2nd MLG and is now moving on to assume the duties as the II Marine Expeditionary Force sergeant major.
"I am thankful to have had the honor to serve with the Marines and sailors of the 2nd MLG both in garrison and in combat," Green said. "I have had the opportunity to go on three deployments with the 2nd MLG."
Although this deployment is coming to an end for Green, the Marines and sailors of 2nd MLG (Fwd) will remain in country with Stables leading them the rest of the way as the senior enlisted advisor to the commanding general.
Prior to his post as the 2nd MLG (Fwd) sergeant major, Stables served as the regimental inspector-instructor sergeant major for the 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, a reserve unit in San Bruno, Calif. This is Stables' first experience serving with a logistics command.
During his comments, Stables expressed his enthusiasm to be serving with the 2nd MLG (Fwd), as well as his appreciation for Green.
"I am thankful that I have been given this opportunity and I am looking forward to serving with all of the Marines and sailors of 2nd MLG," Stables said. "My predecessor has done a great job. We really have an important mission here and I'm happy to be a part of it." Green said he has confidence in Stables' abilities to help guide the group through the rest of the deployment.
"Stables is an outstanding leader, has a great personality and is very energetic," Green said. "He is a well-rounded and experienced sergeant major and has joined a team of all-stars."
Since Stables' arrival at Camp Al Taqaddum, Green has given him guidance to better prepare him for the billet he has taken on.
"I have gone to many different units as a sergeant major, but in my opinion Sgt. Maj. Green is the finest sergeant major I have ever done a turn over with," Stables said. "He really sets the bar high and has been showing me as much as he can the past few days. If I'm half as good as he was as the sergeant major of 2nd MLG, we will be successful."
Although the Marines and sailors of 2nd MLG (Fwd) will be adapting to the change in their senior enlisted leadership, they will continue to accomplish the mission of providing combat service support to forward operating units throughout Al Anbar province, while simultaneously paving the way towards a responsible drawdown.
