ARLINGTON, Va. -- As Team IPPS-A celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, we would like you to meet Sgt. 1st Class Jose Ortiz, Jr., a member of our U.S. Army Reserve Liaison (LNO) Team. Ortiz is the Reserve Design and Development Non-Commissioned Officer, part of the Integrated Personnel and Pay System – Army (IPPS-A) build and functional integration team. Before IPPS-A, he worked for the U.S. Army Physical Disability Agency as well as deployed to both Iraq and Kuwait.
Sgt. 1st Class Ortiz is bilingual in English and Spanish. He was born in Anaheim, Calif. and spent most of his youth back and forth from Izalco, El Salvador and Southern California. In high school, Ortiz made the choice to join the Army, largely due to the events of September 11th. "Here I am 15 years later still proud to wear my uniform and to serve my country," he said.
When talking about what being in the military means to him, Ortiz said "making it out of the neighborhood I came from, to serving the best country in the world makes me feel like my parents' sacrifice, to give us a better way of life, was not in vain. I hope my children see and follow my example of doing what you love."
We are proud to have Sgt. 1st Class Ortiz on the IPPS-A Team! He is helping shape what IPPS-A Release 3 will be for the U.S. Army Reserve. Thanks to the U.S. Army Reserve LNO team for all of your hard work, perspective and dedication to the program!
