    On Thursday morning, November 14, 2019, in the Hall of Heroes, the Ms. Lisa W. Hershman, Deputy Chief Management Officer, and Mr. Sajeel Ahmed, Acting Director of Administration and Organizational Policy, officiated at a gathering of representatives of the Department of Defense (DoD), the Military Services, with family and friends, to celebrate eight honorees who received two of the highest awards that a DoD career civilian can receive.

    The 15th Annual David O. Cooke Excellence in Public Administration Award is presented to a career DoD employee who serves in a non-managerial capacity. The recipient reflects exceptional devotion to duty and impact to efficiency, economy, or other improvements to the Department’s operations that are of a significantly broad scope. On the stage for the presentation of this award were the son and grandson of Doc Cooke, Mr. David O. Cooke and Mr. David B. Cooke.

    The 64th Annual Distinguished Civilian Service Award (DCSA) is presented to career DoD employees. The nominee’s contributions must reflect exceptional devotion to duty and contributes to efficiency, economy, or other improvements to the Department’s operations that are beyond the scope of their component and in a significant impact to the DoD.

    This year’s honorees are: Ms. Tracy A. Kauszler, nominated by the Department of the Air Force as the 15th recipient of the David O. Cooke Excellence in Public Administration Award. The following are the seven recipients of the Distinguished Civilian Service Award: Mr. Robert J. Bianchi, nominated by the Department of the Navy; Dr. Paul K. Blake, nominated by the Secretary of Defense; Dr. Daniel N. Deitz, nominated by the Department of the Navy; Ms. Holly S. Joers, nominated by the Department of the Air Force; Mr. Michael J. Jones, nominated by the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Ms. Jenna M. Sieben, nominated by the Department of the Army; Mr. Gregory J. Weaver, nominated by the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
