FORT STEWART, Georgia – Businesses from outside the Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield gates and across the nation, as far as Texas, visited the Sgt. 1st Class Paul R. Smith Army Education Center, Feb. 6, for an opportunity to learn about the installations during a Small Business Acquisition Forecast Open House.
Fort Stewart Mission and Installation Contracting Command, the Office of Small Business Programs from 419th Contracting Support Brigade, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and the Georgia Technical Procurement Assistance Center, spoke to attendees and Marne leaders in attendance about anticipated forecast opportunities for 2020.
“The intent overall is to bring in new industry partners to support our mission here supporting the more than 108,000 population of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield,” said Felix Marrero, FSGA MICC deputy director. “That includes our Soldiers, their Families and civilians who work here, retirees and visitors to the area.”
MICC provides direct support to the 3rd Infantry Division and garrison, ensuring the power projection platform and the multi-force generation installation infrastructure is maintained and ready to push Soldiers as they come in, Marrero said.
“Working with our partners in the Directorate of Public Works and throughout the garrison, we ensure that happens,” Marrero said.
The open house is held annually. The forum informed as well as recruited new possible industries for the work involved with keeping the Marne Express running and Soldiers ready, as well as all those who support them taken care of on the installation. Last year the MICC directly touched $103 million, via 974 contractual actions, he said.
This year’s open house was well attended.
“It was a success - we had approximately 100 participants,” Marrero said.
The installation touches seven separate counties in the local area, Marrero said, equating to an economic impact of $4.9 billion.
“The intent of the open house is to tell industries about the forthcoming work in the upcoming fiscal year, and also bring in new industry partners to help us execute the annual work plan on behalf of the general and on behalf of the garrison commander,” Marrero said.
He said the open house seems to have peaked the curiosity of many industrial leaders.
“A lot of interest was generated,” Marrero said. “I’ll be expecting multiple questions coming in from participants.”
