NAS Whiting Field is participating in Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2020 (CS-SC 20) along with naval installations within the continental United States (CONUS) Feb. 3-14.
CS-SC 20 is a two-part, linked anti-terrorism force protection exercise conducted by Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command and Commander, Navy Installations Command on all CONUS Navy installations.
Whiting Field’s Navy Security Forces participated in an active shooter drill Thursday at the Lassen Auditorium on base, exercising numerous departments in addition to security, including fire and emergency services and emergency management.
“This exercise allows our team to hone its response to a particular scenario and enables our security force to interface with our local law enforcement partners. We have the best security force anywhere, and Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain enhances their training and readiness to be prepared to respond to any contingency,” said Capt. Paul Bowdich, commanding officer, NAS Whiting Field.
The annual exercise is designed to enhance the readiness of Navy security forces and ensure seamless interoperability among the commands, other services and agency partners. Exercise CS-SC 20 is not in response to any specific threat, but is an annual exercise slated to continue through Feb. 14.
Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions within local communities and to normal base operations, but there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around bases or delays in base access. Area residents may also see or hear security activities associated with the exercise. Advanced coordination has taken place with local law enforcement and first responders.
