Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea – Members of the 8th Civil Engineer Squadron are responsible for maintaining nearly every facility on the base. Within CE, there are separate branches that specialize in different areas, one of those branches is Prime BEEF.
Tech. Sgt. Brent Wood is the 8th CE non-commissioned officer in charge of the Prime Base Engineer Emergency Force or “Prime BEEF.” The mission set of prime BEEF is primarily focused on emergency response situations, as the name suggests.
“CE is broken up into two different parts,” said Wood. “There’s Red Horse squadron and Prime BEEF. At Prime BEEF, our engineers train for things like rapid runway repair operations and basically anything that the installation would need depending on what the mission requires.”
Since being selected for his new role, Wood has been recognized for his performance. Master Sgt. Carlo Narvasa, Wood’s supervisor, spoke very highly of Wood’s accomplishments at Kunsan.
“Tech. Sgt. Wood is an outstanding Airman” Narvasa said. “He is currently our unit deployment manager and he manages one of the largest war reserve material accounts in Kunsan.”
As it turns out, Wood comes from an emergency management background as the non-commissioned officer in charge of the emergency management flight. Making the move to NCOIC of prime BEEF was an easy transition for him given his close proximity with the mission from the beginning.
“I love it,” said Wood. “It’s a great opportunity for me to expand beyond my traditional job, to get out and learn more of what civil engineers do on a daily basis and what their needs and requirements are to get them where they need to go.”
