TULSA, Okla. - U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to the Naval Medical Readiness Training Command (NMRTC) San Diego began vaccinating members of the Tulsa community at the Tulsa Community Vaccination Center (CVC) in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 20, 2021.
Sailors landed in Tulsa on April 16, and began familiarization around the Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus within the following days. There, Sailors began dry vaccination rehearsals in preparation for opening day.
“We kept practicing and practicing until we had a good thing going leading up to opening day,” said U.S. Navy Seaman Nicholas Jones, a Hospital Corpsman assigned to NMRTC San Diego. “We have a pretty good system down.”
Beginning at 4 p.m. community members arrived at the Tulsa CVC. U.S. Navy Seaman Kaylie Dooner, a Hospital Corpsman assigned to NMRTC San Diego and Oklahoma native, gave the first vaccination to Brenda Vallejo, a Tulsa community member.
“It’s an honor and a privilege,” said Dooner. “I’m so excited to be able to vaccinate my fellow Oklahomans with the Department of Defense.”
Community members, in or out of state, can schedule appointments or walk onto the site from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing continued, flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as part of the whole-of-government response to COVID-19.
