FORT BUCHANAN, P.R.─ Command Sgt. Maj. Michael P. Meunier II, the newest senior federal Army noncommissioned officer in the Caribbean, introduces himself to the U.S. Army Reserve-Puerto Rico at the command headquarters, June 28.
Meunier, a native of Massachusetts, took the responsibility to be the command sergeant major of the 1st Mission Support Command and serve as the senior federal Army enlisted advisor in the Caribbean for Brig. Gen. Jeffrey W. Jurasek, commanding general.
"This was a position that I have a lot of interest in because I love Puerto Rico," said Meunier. "The 1st MSC is different from other commands because it has different capabilities.”
Meunier spent three years at the 176th Combat Medical Brigade as the command sergeant major. From this assignment, he went to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, where he managed the medical hospital that provided care to the deployed forces.
"My priorities are the soldiers and civilians because they are our number one asset", added Command Sgt. Maj. Meunier.
He believes that if the leader takes care of their soldiers, the soldiers will take care of the mission. For this last, he highlighted the importance of equal opportunity, health, welfare, and morale.
Readiness is his second priority yet equally important, he said.
"Military education, medical readiness, and physical fitness," said Meunier. "We need to maintain our skills as soldiers."
Meunier expects the noncommissioned officers to continue leading training and leading the way, he said.
With approximately 5,000 soldiers, the U.S. Army Reserve-Puerto Rico is the largest federal U.S. Army Command in the Caribbean, and has units in Aguadilla, Mayaguez, Yauco, Ponce, Juana Diaz, Ceiba, Salinas, Puerto Nuevo, Virgin Islands, and headquarters at Fort Buchanan
