LIVORNO, Italy - Halloween is always an exciting event for families, but not everybody have the luxury of having family support.
For 1st Sgt. Kavan Norris, from 405th Army Field Support Battalion, Africa, thoughts of those less fortunate prompted a gathering of Camp Darby’s Motorcycle Mentorship Program to help him bring the festive spirit of Halloween to a “Casa Famiglia,” a care center located near the Darby Military Community. On Oct. 28, seven riders, with roaring engines and baskets filled with candies, brought a breath of fresh air to the over 50 members of center.
“We can bring some joy and spread some smiles with these people who not only carry some handicap, but also do not have a family around them,” Norris said.
A sense of gratitude and appreciation for what service members have brought representative of Camp Darby to share, plus a sense of friendship with the neighbor community. The 405th is also offering their expertise in volunteering on maintenance projects, such as painting, or gardening, if needed.
“This heartwarming experience is just the beginning of a lasting sponsorship program,” Norris said. “We will attempt to establish playdates between our children and the children living in that community, maybe celebrating their birthdays together.”
