In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) San Antonio recognizes Machinist Mate Second Class Petty Officer Heidi Salazar who enlisted into the United States Navy in November 2015 and currently serves as part of NTAG San Antonio’s Navy Recruiting Division Five.

In recognition of her hard work, Salazar recently earned NTAG San Antonio’s Texas Ranger award for August 2022, which was presented by NTAG San Antonio’s Commanding Officer, CDR Stephanie Simoni.

Salazar, from Palmdale, California, is a proud graduate of Highland Park High School where she was a member of the school’s JROTC, track, and Cross-Country teams.

When reflecting on her Naval experience, Salazar beams with pride and excitement for her choosing to enlist. “The Navy has impacted my life by getting me out of a small town in Los Angeles County and providing me with a career, job skills, steady pay, and the ability to travel and see the world,” said Salazar.

When asked what it means to her that Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated globally, Salazar replied, “Being in the Navy and building this career has made me a Mexican American and it is very cool that I can participate in this project.”

“I’ve learned a lot while being in the Navy and from life,” said Salazar. “If I could go back in time and give the 12-year-old me any advice, it would be that some moments may be a little difficult, but that is all it is, just a moment.

    Oh, and GO LAKERS!”

NTAG San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 30 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
