FORT RILEY, Kan. — U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Randy T. Brown, the 15th transportation corps command sergeant major, visited the 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas, Feb. 15, 2023.
The visit was coordinated to observe the organization and logistics of transportation, gain an understanding of any challenges that the transportation community might have, and engage with the 1st Inf. Div. Soldiers.
“The visit is coordinated for the regimental sergeant majors to come here, pay a visit to the Soldiers and see how things are, mainly targeting the logistics community,” said U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Nelson N. Rivas, the battalion command sgt. maj. of the 1st Sustainment Brigade
After conducting physical training with the Soldiers of Charlie Company, 541st Division Sustainment Support Battalion (DSSB), 1st Inf. Div., Brown gave them advice and motivation to continue working hard.
“The circumstance is to improve and you’ll be okay because life is quick and you’re all great,” said Brown. “That’s what makes a United States Soldier so powerful, and even better, you’re all transporters.”
A small tour was conducted at the Maintenance Facility, 541st DSSB C Co. motor pool, where Brown communicated with Soldiers about the operation of motor transportation. After observing the motor pool, Brown discussed with Sustainment Brigade noncommissioned officers regarding transportation logistics, the importance of being a leader, and the total Soldier concept.
“We’re showing the Sergeant Major our equipment to give him an overview of what we’ve been doing, what we’re doing next, and the status and progress for the future,” said U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Shannon Alvarez, truck master, Charlie Company, 541st DSSB, Sustainment Brigade, 1st Inf. Div.
A meeting took place at the 1st Inf. Div. 1st Sustainment Brigade Headquarters, which included Command Sgt. Maj. Tisa W. Scott, the 15th quartermaster command sgt. maj., Sgt. Maj. Paul Gomez, the enlisted career counselor for the ordnance corps, and 1st Inf. Div. Brigade Command Sgt. Majors.
Command Sgt. Maj. Clarence Raby, the 1st Inf. Div. ready reserve division command sergeant major, joined everyone from the meeting for lunch at the Cantigny Dining Facility.
At the Division Material Readiness Center, Brown discussed and oversaw the management and accommodations of supplies and equipment at Fort Riley.
The visit concluded with a state of the corps discussed at Victory Hall.
“The best part of this visit was communicating with the Soldiers,” Brown said.
