VICENZA, Italy – The Vicenza Brownie Girl Scouts Troop #53 recently visited the Fire Department Station on Caserma Ederle for a joint experience with American Red Cross and health clinic representatives. The visit focused on first aid tips and safety guidance in case of emergency.

“Today, we are working with the Fire Department, volunteers from the American Red Cross and nurses from the clinic to help our girls earn their first aid badge and safety award pins,” said Jacquelyn Koon, one of the troop leaders for Vicenza Brownie Girl Scouts Troop #53.

Koon added that the training given to the scouts was an opportunity for different organizations on post to work with each other, and the response was positive. During the event, many participants asked questions to the instructors.

“Based on the age of the children, the challenge was putting together a class that would interest most of little ones,” explained Luca Giaretta, battalion chief of Fire Prevention Office, Fire and Emergency Services for the garrison.

Giaretta talked about safety measures and answered questions about how to react in case of emergencies, also highlighting the importance of bringing the safety message home to the families through different types of fire safety hand-outs and literature.

“We tried to set this class as a positive experience for children and adults so that they will help spread the fire safety message around our community,” he said.

Before concluding the event, participants assisted by the firefighters had the chance to get on the fire truck and learn more about it.
