RENO, Nev. — The 152nd Communications Flight at the Nevada Air National Guard Base has officially converted to the 152nd Communications Squadron during their reflagging ceremony held on April 2, 2023.
The ceremony, held in the Wing Auditorium here, was attended by both previous and current Nevada Air National Guard members and their families. To kick off the ceremony, Chief Master Sgt. Tregg Jackson received the "Major General Drennan A. Clark Order of Nevada Award".
“It’s the top state recognition of your career,” said Jackson. “You know, with 25 years of military service and 20 years of service in the Nevada Air National Guard, it is the baseline criteria in my peer group, this is the award you would like to receive.”
The 152nd Communications Squadron oversees all of the major infrastructure, network and security projects regarding base holding communications. The squadron possesses secure communications capabilities and manages all of the accounts, troubleshoots and provides customer service, for over 1100 members.
Lt. Col. Shannon Castaneda, 152nd Communications Squadron Commander, highlighted the significance of the squadron’s upgrade.
“What today's ceremony was about was about honoring the legacy of the communications flight in the Nevada Air National Guard,” said Castaneda. “This was significant because it's an upgrade in our designation and can allow for some potential additional opportunities, additional manning and additional mission sets.”
The new 152nd Communications Squadron emblem was also unveiled at the ceremony. The emblem features a circuit board style shield above snow-capped mountains and the squadron's motto, "Virtually Unstoppable."
The conversion of the 152nd Communications Flight to the 152nd Communications Squadron is an important milestone for the Nevada Air National Guard Base, and an achievement for the airmen within the squadron. It demonstrates the base's commitment to enhancing its communication capabilities to better serve the airmen on base.
“It's about providing recognition to the members of the flight as the squadron,” said Castaneda. “It's, a personal sense of pride that they know that they are on par in terms of designation and the fact that they are just reiterating that we provide a service that every single other mission set requires in order to do their job.”
